The CNS, the city's downtown, was the command center, housing the brain and spinal cord. The PNS, the sprawling suburbs, connected the CNS to the rest of the body, carrying messages to and from the CNS.
Our protagonist, Neuron Nate, was a motor neuron in the PNS. He was responsible for carrying messages from the CNS to the muscles, causing them to contract or relax. Nate was a diligent worker, always ensuring his messages were delivered on time. However, he was also known for his knack for getting into the most absurd situations.
One day, a sensory neuron in the hand detected a hot surface. Instantly, it sent a distress signal to the spinal cord via the PNS. The spinal cord, acting as a reflex center, immediately sent a message back through Nate to the muscles in the hand, causing it to pull away from the hot surface. This all happened so quickly that the brain was only informed about the event after the hand had already been withdrawn.
However, Nate, in his haste to deliver the reflex message, tripped over a dendrite, the part of the neuron that receives signals.
